On June 24, almost 200 people from all over Latin America connected to a Zoom webinar, “DNA Barcodes, BioAlfa, and the Study of Insect Diversity in Costa Rica.” In the presentation, Dan Janzen and Winnie Hallwachs gave an overview of their work in Costa Rica, their pioneering work with DNA barcoding, and how it has all led to the BioAlfa project. The webinar, which was hosted by Colombia’s Humboldt Institute, iBOL Colombia, Área de Conservación Guanacaste, and the Universidad del Atlantico, highlights the growing interest in BioAlfa from other Latin American countries. The webinar is one of the many follow-ups to a February 2020 visit to ACG of a delegation from Colombia and Ecuador, who came to learn more about BioAlfa and how it has been implemented thus far. The full video of the webinar, in Spanish, can be viewed here, along with a summary of the talk in English. Thank you to iBOL for providing both.
